About this research

The findings in this report are based on an independent survey of 100 UK defined benefit (DB) pension scheme trustees, completed between 28 May and 4 June 2026.

The research was designed to explore trustee perspectives on the key challenges facing DB schemes, attitudes towards endgame planning, views on consolidation and emerging endgame solutions, and the operational and cost pressures affecting trustee decision-making.

Results are shown as percentages of respondents unless otherwise stated. Due to rounding, totals may not always equal 100%.

Notes on comparability

Trustee Type

The 2026 sample includes a greater proportion of trustees from larger schemes than the 2024 survey. While year-on-year comparisons provide a useful indication of changing trustee views and priorities, differences in sample composition should be considered when interpreting changes between the two surveys.
The findings presented in this report reflect the views of the trustees surveyed and should not be regarded as representative of all UK defined pension schemes or trustees.
